Unregistered assistants now have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and learn the skills needed to increase their value as a member of the veterinary practice team. MVMA Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) Introduction The Missouri Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) now recognizes and certifies the designation of Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA). As such, the MVMA, in cooperation with Patterson Veterinary Academy (PVA), is proud to offer veterinary medical personnel the opportunity to expand their professional growth by offering an online CVA program. This CVA program creates a solid foundation for animal health professionals, enabling them to become more informed, skilled, and trusted members of their teams. Online Education Approximately 40 hours of videos and web based training on basic veterinary assisting fundamentals. Skills Development A CVA must demonstrate competency in dozens of foundational skills. Work Experience On-the-job training is an important element in this educational model. The CVA is required to accumulate 500 hours of practical, supervised work experience. Testing An online exam comprised of 100 randomly generated questions insures that CVAs possess a sound knowledge base.
